Coordinate the signing of the death certificate with the deceased’s doctor and filing with the local health department; obtaining the requested number of certified death certificates for the family
Provide Information on cemetery plots at local cemeteries. Make arrangements with cemetery to schedule the burial and handle any paperwork required
Advocate for families who qualify for a burial allowance from the Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA)
Prepare an obituary for our website and/or any newspaper requested by the family. We provide draft copies to each family that you can review and make changes to before the obituary is published
Massachusetts Veterans who are receiving assistance under M.G.L. Chapter 115 may be eligible for state funds of $4,000, provided that the total funeral expenses do not exceed $5,000. Rice Funeral Home will complete and submit state Form V.S.9 from The Commonwealth of Massachusetts Office of Commissioner of Veterans’ Services on behalf of the family of those veterans who qualify for and wish to apply for this benefit.
